slips falls

Slip and fall accidents fall under a section of tort law known as premises liability. This simply means that the owner or maintainer of an area needs to keep said area reasonably safe to those that may visit the property. Failure to maintain a safe area can result in slip and fall, or trip and fall, accidents.  The owner of the property or lot may be responsible for these occurrences. Examples of unsafe conditions that cause slip and fall accidents, but not limited to, are:

  • Unmarked, wet floors
  • Rubbish left on floors
  • Uneven sidewalks
  • Loose or torn carpeting
  • Loose floorboards
  • Uneven stairs
  • Faulty or missing handrails
  • Exposed hoses or wires
  • Slippery surfaces
  • Spilled liquid
  • Broken stairs
  • Uneven ground or cracked sidewalks
  • Inadequate lighting
  • Fallen objects

When one of the above hazards presents itself to us unknowingly, it may cause us to slip, trip, and fall and suffer injuries. Slip and fall accidents in Alabama and Georgia can occur both on private and public properties including private homes, apartment complexes, office buildings, supermarkets, restaurants, stores, and just about everywhere we walk. It is important to contact a knowledgeable attorney immediately.
